A message from Club Captain, Mike Gunton:
We have had a great season in 2024 and we are very much looking forward to 2025!
I'm delighted to say that Liphook won the the much coveted President's Cup for the first time since 2010. In a dramatic afternoon in September, Ernest Ward with his final bowl of the afternoon, reduced a three down to a one down to win the President Cup 36-35 in what was a super team effort.
We ran three teams in the Three Counties League in 2024 the Liphook Blues (1st team) the Liphook Whites and the Liphook Reds.
Our Whites team missed out on promotion to Division 3 by a mere 5 points with a team skippered by some experienced heads mixed in with a lot of second year bowlers. We entered a third team in the league last season with the Liphook Reds coming into Division 4. We were lucky to have some experienced bowlers who worked with a team of first year bowlers as the Reds took quite a few points off their opponents in Division 4. The Reds ended the season with a thumping win on the final game against Rowledge.
Our Liphook Blues team lost games on the finest of margins in the Division 1 campaign and unfortunately went down in the final relegation spot. Though the Blues were delighted to win the final game of the season by going to league leaders and local rivals Petersfield and beating them away from home 5-0.
In the Three Counties individual competitions we were represented with a number of Liphook bowlers. We were delighted that Liphook had Three Counties Aussie Pairs champions in Dave Thurgood and Sandy Baker in 2024 who triumphantly won the title at the Three Counties Finals Day. I’m also happy to say that our Open Triples Competition was well attended this year with 12 teams competing on a glorious afternoon in July and our friendly fixtures for 2024 saw us making friends with clubs throughout Hampshire, Surrey and West Sussex.
