A message from Blues Captain, Dave Thurgood:
Thanks to the good work of previous Blues captain Richard Baker in 2022 I took over the captaincy of the Liphook Blues feeling confident that the team could make a push for promotion.
We decided to have four triples teams with a couple of subs to cater for holiday absences so we could keep players together and rotate the team. It proved to be a winning strategy as we not only gained promotion but went up as Division 2 Champions.
In what was a three way tussle for promotion we ended the season magnificently. Going into our last 4 games we scored 17 points from a possible 20 as we moved from 3rd to 1st replacing Godalming & Farncombe at the top of the table with Holloway Hill finishing third and just missing out on promotion.
A really exciting season saw us finish the season with some crucial wins. Notably against Stedham B where we took all 5 points with two of our triples winning by a point and 3 points. Whilst our triple team of Mike & Anne Gunton and David Marsh were formidable opposition to teams who played against us. Division 1 will be a challenge and a step up but I’m very confident that the Liphook Blues will continue to surprise other teams in 2024.
